Fulbright Shines at the Legal Alliance Summit Awards
Fulbright's International Arbitration Group has been named Best USA Law Firm for International Arbitration by the Legal Alliance Summit Awards in 2011.
The process to elect the laureates of the Legal Alliance Summit Awards took six months and involved 130 jury members, who evaluated each firm and determined who would receive the prestigious award.
Legal Alliance stated, "Fulbright & Jaworski, with 900 lawyers in more than 60 practice areas, is consistently honored for its representation of businesses, governments, non-profit organizations and individual clients across the globe."
The arbitration practice, treated as autonomous since 1996, now counts 22 dedicated partners working from Houston, New York, Washington, D.C., London, Hong Kong and, most recently, Dubai. The practice group's knowledge is particularly significant in international energy-related disputes.
Fulbright's arbitration practice's most noteworthy matters are a recent UNCITRAL arbitration and the Yukos Oil arbitration. The UNCITRAL arbitration involved between Nejapa Power Co. and El Salvador's Comisión Hidroeléctrica Ejecutiva del Río Lempa. The Yukos matter was a representation of Russia's largest oil company Yukos Oil in a USD $16.5 billion arbitration regarding a merger with Siberia's Sibneft. These two matters significantly contributed to Fulbright's long-standing reputation in alternative dispute resolution.
Mark Baker, co-head of Fulbright's International Arbitration Group, said, "we were delighted to be honored by Legal Alliance and gratified that the jury, who are all general counsels, placed such significance on our experience in the energy field, as we see this as a key growth area for international disputes."
