Labor and Employment Law: Wrongful Discharge and Employment Tort Litigation

A significant portion of Fulbright & Jaworski's Labor and Employment Practice Group's workload involves the defense of employment-related contract and tort claims, often referred to as "wrongful discharge" cases. As proactive legal counsel, our lawyers work with clients to anticipate and avoid these claims. And, when it benefits our clients, we negotiate binding severance agreements and releases to preclude litigation.

Fulbright's lawyers are experienced in defending against claims for:

  • Breach of an alleged duty of "good faith and fair dealing"
  • Discharge in violation of public policy (e.g., for filing a worker's compensation claim or refusing to engage in illegal activity)
  • Defamation
  • Breach of employment contracts
  • Invasion of privacy
  • Intentional infliction of emotional distress
  • Other torts related to the employment relationship or its termination
